Did you know that there are remnants of an old road hiding at Assateague Island National Seashore?

It's true! Although this beautiful spot is known for its white sand beach and wild horses...

...it's also home to a few nature trails, one of which is hiding the former Baltimore Boulevard.

You'll find this stretch of deteriorating road along the Dunes Trail. It was built in the 1950s and at one point was 15-miles in length. Who knew?!

Much of it was then destroyed by a storm in 1962 and it was never rebuilt.

Although only patches of Baltimore Boulevard remain, you can still walk on it while admiring the scenery all around.

While exploring this spot, you may actually see seagulls in this area that have been known to use the hard surface of the road to crack open clam shells.
