While we certainly don't think all stereotypes are true, there are some things said about Mainers that ring true for us here at Only in Maine. We like to believe that the only people who truly understand someone from Maine is another person from Maine, but the reality is that some things are pretty easy to figure out. Is it true that we hate winter? Do we all run around in L.L. Bean fleeces? Do you fit any of these Maine stereotypes? Read on to find out!
1. Moose outnumber Mainers.
In Northern Maine, moose really DO outnumber people. There are around 70,000 moose in Maine. And, since Maine moose are reportedly getting healthier we may just see this figure get bigger.
2. We all drive sensible Subarus.
Be honest. On snowy days when you really need to get somewhere, you wish you drove a Subaru don't you? Okay, even if you don't drive a Subaru you definitely drive something sensible!
3. We all have a collection of flannels.
In our estimation, at least two flannels equal a collection and we have to believe we've all got at least two tucked away in our closet.
4. We all live in the middle of nowhere.
Places like Portland might be on the map, but we like to tell people it's the middle of nowhere. We're fine with people steering clear of our little patch of paradise. And, honestly, everywhere else sort of IS the middle of nowhere.
5. Mainers are obsessed with lobster.
Not just lobster, but clams and mussels, too. We love our seafood!
6. We all love L.L. Bean.
We know it's expensive, but there's some strong state pride running through our veins whenever we see that logo.
7. We love winter.
That doesn't mean we don't appreciate the summer. But, despite the complaints we all live in Maine for a reason.
8. Mainers talk funny.
Whenever we write about the way Mainers speak, we get divided comments. Some agree, many disagree. But, in reality, let's just all agree that even if we don't talk like old-time Mainers, we DO leave off an "r" here and there.

9. We don't feel the cold.
First, yes we do. Second, and more accurately, we just get over it. Mainers are hearty in the winter time!
10. We are obsessed with Maine.
It's true. Nothing we can say. And, we think it's pretty obvious why.
So how many Maine stereotypes are true for you? Guilty.
