8 Places In Louisiana Where Famous Movies Were Filmed

Louisiana is a popular filming location due to its diverse landscapes and historic sites.

Louisiana's film industry has grown in recent years, but the state has long been a favorite destination for filmmakers. The mix of amazing landscapes with a plethora of classic restaurants and other old-time structures make it one of the most popular places in the country to film movies. Here are some that you may remember!

1) Bud’s Broiler – Runaway Jury

This classic hamburger chain in New Orleans was featured in both the film Monster’s Ball and 2003’s John Grisham’s Runaway Jury, with Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman.

2) City Park Peristyle – The Case of Benjamin Button

3) Natchitoches -- Steel Magnolias

One of the most iconic movies ever to be filmed in Louisiana, the house where Steel Magnolias was filmed in Natchitoches is now a museum.

4) Atchafalaya River Basin -- Tarzan of the Apes, 1918

This movie was originally filmed in the Atchafalaya River Basin which you can tour today by booking various boat tours or renting your own boat.

5) St. Louis Cemetery No.1 – Easy Rider

6) Oak Alley Plantation -- Interview with the Vampire

7) Airline Motors Restaurant – Monster’s Ball

Although the movie was set in Georgia, most of the film was shot in locations near LaPlace, including Airline Motors Restaurant, which was where the character Leticia (played by Halle Berry) ends up working after being fired from her former job at Bud’s Broiler.

8) Laurel Valley Village Plantation – Ray

Ray’s childhood in Florida was filmed at this site in Thibodaux. Many other locations in Louisiana were used to film Ray as well.
