We have taken a look back at our beautiful state from the 1940s, 1950s and 1970s these past few months. Going through the different eras, it is impossible not to recognize the changes in our state. Today, we will take a look back into another great decade of change. Here are 17 cool 1960s flashback photographs to reflect on:

16. The 1960 Kentucky Basketball team and their short shorts.
15. This is the 1965 Kentucky team and their shorter shorts. You have to wonder how they played basketball in such small shorts. It reminds me of a Nair commercial… but I think that was in the 70s.
14. Kirksey High School in Calloway, circa 1960, when cheerleaders wore longer skirts then the basketball players wore shorts.
13. A resident of Bowlingtown reading before Buckhorn Lake replaced the entire community.
12. A Louisville Howard Johnson during the 1960s.
11. This is an Appalachian family in Eastern Kentucky, circa 1964.
10. Eastern Kentucky boys and men, circa 1964.
9. A Democratic group, including a State Trooper, awaits Kennedy's arrival circa 1960.
8. Girls washing their hair in 1964. Likely this was in a poor part of Kentucky.
7. Teenage boys smoking in 1964, Eastern Kentucky.
6. Somerset Kentucky in 1962.
5. Muhammad Ali, aka the Champ, in Kentucky, 1966.
4. Teenage Girls relaxing in the kitchen, circa 1964
3. We had hippies, just like everyone else.
2. This popular mode of travel in the 1960s was alive and kickin’ in Smyrna in 2011.
1. Kennedy made a brief stop in Lexington during October 1960. Though short, it was a happy day for Lexington.
Some of these 1960s flashback photographs can really be a shocker. We don’t always realize just how much some things have changed in Kentucky over the decades. Delving into the past can be a lot of fun if you enjoy history, personal or state wise. Which of these 1960-era pictures did you like the best? Or, do you have one of your own to share?
