10 Things Hoosiers Do That Seem Insane To Everyone Else
Highlights ten quirky yet relatable things about Indiana that might seem strange to outsiders.
Hoosiers are a little quirky, but you know what? We're darn proud of it! While we might seem a little strange to outsiders who aren't used to the way we do certain things, within the state, these things are as normal as normal can be. Here are 10 relatable things about Indiana that might seem a little strange to visitors from other states...
1. We'll strike up a conversation with you
For some reason many people from the coast find this weird, but we just call it friendly. We're talkative people here and we will stop and say hello.
2. We will sit outside our houses to watch storms
Tornado warning? Grab a lawn chair and let's check out this storm! Don't worry, we know when to go indoors.
3. We're all about tailgating, any time, any place
We tailgate before sports games, major events, and even while waiting outside restaurants (Bonge's Tavern, anyone?).
4. We think peanut butter goes with everything
Some people smother it on burgers and others devour a peanut butter sandwich with their chili.
5. We'll wear shorts at the slightest hint of spring
If the weather starts warming to a brisk 45, you can bet you'll see Hoosiers in shorts.
6. We have a shoe tree we're proud of
Origin stories vary, but you can add to this unique shoe tree in Milltown, Indiana.
7. We love our farms and rural areas
Many other states are proud of their cities, and while we don't disagree, we absolutely love rural Indiana. From our farms to our lakes, we're proud to be from the country.
8. We'll actually get to know our neighbors
Here, we become friends with our neighbors and frequently invite them over to parties or to have dinner with us.
9. We love "weird" foods
We love eating frog legs and even have a restaurant in southern Indiana that serves brains on their menu. Don't knock it until you try it!
10. We call green bell peppers "mangoes"
Don't ask - just go with it.
