MSN published a list of the 50 safest cities in the world and one city in Idaho made the list, which will come as no surprise to Idahoans. Living in Idaho has several perks, and the safety of our cities is one of them. The feeling of safety that Idaho provides has resulted in a surge of interest towards the state as both a vacation destination and a place to live. The fact that this city was just recognized for being one of the safest in the world just goes to show that Idaho is finally getting the attention it deserves! Boise, Idaho was named one of the safest cities in the world by MSN. Moreover, it was ranked #8 out of 50! There were only two USA cities on the list, the other being Salt Lake City, Utah which came in at #49.

The rankings were calculated via data from Numbeo, which calls itself "the world’s largest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide."

Each city has a "Safety Index" which is ranked on a scale of 0-100 (100 being the safest). Boise currently has a high safety index of 81.07. The data is calculated based on "perceptions of visitors" of the website who are asked various questions regarding how safe they feel in the city.

Numbeo asks questions like "How safe do you feel walking alone in the city at night?", "How worried are you about being mugged/robbed?", and "How worried are you about having things stolen from your car?" in order to obtain safety information about a city.

Along with ranking high on safety, Boise ranks very low on crime. Numbeo's calculated crime index for Boise is only 18.93 on the 0-100 scale (lower numbers meaning less crime).

It was only a matter of time before Idaho's capital city gained some national recognition. Boise has been blossoming for quite some time now and gaining new residents like crazy.

Boise is the perfect combination of nature and industry. The downtown area contains all the perks of big city living, but nature and hiking trails are still just a quick drive away.
