Florida has so many charming small towns. When choosing an area to live in, one of the main factors people consider is the overall safety of the city or town. It doesn’t matter if you’re single or you’re retired, safety is of the utmost importance in order to enjoy where you live. Safewise has reported that there are ten cities in Florida that have ranked exceptionally high in terms of safety. Using FBI crime statistics as well as demographic information, Safewise has ranked these as the safest cities in Florida.
1. Marco Island, FL
Safewise found that the city coming in as the safest is Marco Island. This is the second year in a row that Marco Island lands the top spot. While Marco Island saw a slight climb in property crime averages per 1,000 residents, the number is still a fraction of what the state averages are.
2. Parkland, FL
Coming in second is the city in northern Broward County, Parkland. With a significant drop in property crime from last year, Parkland went from being #4 on the list to #2.
3. Weston, FL
Weston dropped a spot from last year, but it still makes the list at #3. This ranking change was due to the slight increase in property crime. However, violent crimes did remain the same at 0.6 per 1,000 residents.
4. Winter Springs, FL
Winter Springs jumped up two spots this year on the list to come in at #4. While property crime rates have increased over the past three years, violent crime rates have decreased.
5. North Palm Beach, FL
North Palm Beach, Florida has a smaller population compared to other cities on this list, but it still remains a safe place to live. Violent crime rates are below the national average and well below the state average.
6. Oviedo, FL
Oviedo, Florida has jumped up three places from last year in order to wind up #6 on this list. Despite seeing a smaller increase in property and violent crimes for the year, the averages for Oviedo still remain well below state and national averages.
7. Cooper City, FL
Just north of Pembroke Pines is the relatively small Cooper City. Jumping up four spots this year to #7, Cooper City has an extremely low violent crime ranking at 0.6 per 1,000 residents. This drop in average from last year is what helped rank Cooper City higher in 2021.
8. Safety Harbor, FL
Safety Harbor is a waterfront gem in Florida that jumped up seven spots this year to land at #8. The property crime rate comes in at 14.0 per 1,000 residents, which is low compared to the state average of 37 per 1,000 residents. In addition, the violent crime rate is half of the state average.
9. Minneola, FL
Minneola didn’t crack the top 10 last year, and yet it comes in at #9 this year. While the violent crime rate doubled from 1.2 to 2.4 on average from 2019 to now, it still falls well below the 3.8 state average per 1,000 residents.
10. Sweetwater, FL
Just like Minneola, Sweetwater wasn’t even in the top 20 last year but jumped 12 spots to round out the top 10. Despite the property crime rate almost doubling from 2019 and the violent crime rate actually doubling, the numbers still fall well below the state averages in comparison.
