Here Are 12 Things Everyone in Delaware Absolutely Loves

Delawareans can disagree about a lot — like whether a sandwich is a hoagie or a sub — but there are a few things that we really can all get behind. Do you think you fit the Delaware stereotypes? Read the dozen items below and find out some of the best things about Delaware.

1. We LOVE Memorial Day

This is the kick-off to summer, so open up the beaches! But if you live in the First State and want to escape the crowds, try one of Delaware's hidden beaches instead.

2. But we also love Labor Day.

By the time Labor Day rolls around, the beaches and beach traffic clear. So, go home, tourists; it's local summer now!

3. Speaking of summer... Thrashers and Vinegar, please!

There's no doubt that Thrasher's French Fries are a Delaware staple, best served with vinegar!

4. And Dolles Salt Water Taffy!

It wouldn't be a trip to the beach without it. Dolles has been around since 1927, and is the oldest candy maker in Delaware.

5. Speaking of beach - Delawareans just can't get by without sand and salt air.

It must be part of our DNA. And with 26 miles of Atlantic Coast, you'll find plenty of places to get your beach fix.

6. We're not always peaceful, though!

We love arguing about where Slower Lower (or is it Lower Slower?) Delaware starts.

7. We may not agree on hoagie vs sub...

Hoagie or sub? While there are differing opinions on what it's called, I think we can agree that the Bobbie is the best of the bunch. Dubbed "The Greatest Sandwich in America," the Bobbie is a cold sub with hand-pulled turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mayo. This legendary creation originated at Capriotti's Sandwich Shop in Wilmington, Delaware.

8. Scrapple is the breakfast meat of Delaware!

You had to know this was coming.

9. Oh hey there, YoUDee — Delawareans love you!

YoUDee is the beloved University of Delaware's a Fightin' Blue Hens mascot. Let's go Hens!

10. Beating the traffic.

You know that feeling when you get out of work early and beat the traffic? Yeah, that. We love that, especially in the summer.

11. The DuPont Mansions, of course.

I could spend hours wandering through the magical grounds of Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library in Wilmington. How about you?

12. Finally, we love our festivals!

From the Dewey Beach Bacon Fest in the spring to Apple Scrapple in the fall (and many other festivals in between), we'll come out in full force for any occasion!
