Most people with even a passing interest or knowledge of television know of Mary Tyler Moore. This Emmy award-winning actress had an immensely successful entertainment career that spanned decades. Though she was born in New York City and closely associated with Minneapolis (where the Mary Tyler Moore Show was set), Moore lived in a Greenwich, CT mansion when she died. She was buried in Fairfield, CT, and is one of the most famous people buried in Connecticut. Let's take a peek back into her life:

By any measure, Mary Tyler Moore had an immensely successful career in the entertainment industry.

Not only was she an actress and producer, she also was an advocate for several causes that were near and dear to her heart, like diabetes and animal rights.

She first became known to audiences when she was cast in The Dick Van Dyke Show as Van Dyke's wife, Laura Petrie.

She won her first Emmy for the show and was considered a fashion icon thanks to her capri pants and other stylish wear on the show.

In 1970, Moore would skyrocket to fame as the lead actress in a show that bore her name.

The Mary Tyler Moore show centered around the character of Mary Richards, played by Moore.

Richards was a single independent woman who worked at a Minneapolis radio station. The show featured other big names like Ed Asner, Valerie Harper, and Betty White.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show ran for seven seasons and won 29 Emmys, including three for Moore herself as Best Actress in a Sitcom.

The show's societal impact was huge, and in 2002, Minneapolis unveiled a life-sized statue of Moore made in bronze.

Moore played in several Broadway plays and also acted in a variety of films, even gaining an Oscar nomination for her role in Ordinary People.

In January 2017, Moore passed away from cardiopulmonary arrest and pneumonia. She was buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, CT.
