3 Convincing Reasons Colorado Might Be the Best Place to Live for Retirees
From outdoor recreation to quality healthcare and tax considerations, here are three convincing reasons you should think of retiring in Colorado.
I'm not quite there yet, but I often wonder where I will retire when I'm ready and financially able to do so. Like many others who are considering when and where to retire, factors such as climate, lifestyle, taxes, healthcare, and quality of life are top priorities. Choosing a place to settle is not always an easy decision, and certainly not one to take lightly. So, where is the best place to retire in Colorado? While I can't give you an exact city, suburb, or town, top choices for retirees include Salida, Pueblo, and Grand Junction. Regardless of exactly where to retire in the state, here are some of the top reasons to live in Colorado:
Weather, Climate, and Natural Beauty

One of the top reasons anyone (not just retirees) lives in Colorado is its natural beauty. Home to the 265,807-acre Rocky Mountain National Park, there's an abundance of snow-capped mountain peaks, hiking trails (over 300 miles of trails!), and wildlife to appreciate and explore. Not only that, the landscape varies, from the crimson-colored Maroon Bells, which tower 14,000 feet above sea level, to the massive dunes that undulate across the nearly 150,000-acre Great Sand Dunes National Park. The beauty of Colorado is unmatched, and a huge draw to outdoor enthusiasts around the world.
Due to its higher elevation, Colorado experiences all four distinct seasons, with snowy, cold winters and mild summers, plus over 300 sunny days annually. The humidity is also lower than in many other states, making it more comfortable to spend time outdoors year-round, and the annual snowfall at the ski resort mountains averages over 200 inches.
Lifestyle Benefits of Colorado

After discussing Colorado's weather and climate, it should come as no surprise that one of the lifestyle benefits of living here is spending time in the great outdoors. Not only is skiing at one of the state's many world-class ski resorts a must (for those who enjoy the sport, of course), but there are hiking trails just about everywhere. Golf courses are also aplenty, with the Colorado Golf Club and Ballyneal Golf Club rated among the state's best. Colorado is home to numerous pristine lakes, as well as plains in the eastern part of the state. Whether you enjoy hiking, walking, skiing, biking, golfing, or kayaking, it's not hard to live an active and healthy lifestyle in Colorado!
Healthcare and Retirement Resources

Of the many reasons to live in Colorado, healthcare and taxes are huge considerations. According to FinanceBuzz, many seniors do not have to pay Social Security tax, depending on their income, of course, and property taxes are low compared to most other states. Everyday items such as groceries and medications are exempt from sales tax.
For those worried about the quality of healthcare, the hospitals and medical care here in Colorado are among the best in the country. Healthcare costs are also more affordable. If you enjoy socializing with your peers, there are plenty of retirees and retirement communities around the state, so it can be relatively easy to make new friends.
