9 Struggles Everyone In Northern California Can Relate To

Most people who live in Northern California couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the world. But there are certain struggles that come with living in this sunny, friendly, diverse region. These are 9 struggles that every NorCal resident can fully relate to.

1. When it rains and you don't have a raincoat

California isn't the rainiest of states. In fact, the state just got out of a years-long drought. So on those rare occasions when a downpour happens, we're usually stuck without a raincoat.

2. Dry, wilted gardens

Ask most NorCal residents, and their garden probably doesn't look like this one. Because of the aforementioned drought, residents had to conserve water, and many gardens lost their lushness.

3. Lack of seasons

While those in other states get to enjoy the changing colors of the leaves and the rebirth of flora in the spring, Northern California stays pretty mild year round.

4. When there's not enough snow for skiing

For many NorCal folks, skiing over the holidays is a family tradition. Unfortunately, many popular ski destinations in California haven't gotten enough snow over recent years, for a variety of reasons.

5. Expensive housing

The San Francisco Bay Area has one of the most competitive real estate climates in the country. For many people, the skyrocketing prices are simply out of reach.

6. Getting confused with Southern California

Look, we don't know your favorite actors, and we haven't been on a Hollywood movie set. Why? Because that's all in SoCal.

7. Inaccurate ETAs

It's common in NorCal to tell someone you'll arrive by 7 pm, only to have traffic push that ETA back by an additional half hour. The moral of the story is to always allot extra time for yourself.

8. Eating Mexican food from other states

When NorCal residents travel to other states and get a hankering for Mexican food, they're frequently disappointed. Except maybe in Texas. Texas is fine.

9. Always a green Christmas

You know that white Christmas that people sing about when the holidays roll around? Yeah, we NorCal residents have probably never experienced a white Christmas in our lives. It's green Christmases all the way here in the Golden State.
