Some of my favorite childhood memories are going to the movies at a local drive-in theater. Our parents would pack candy, snacks, sodas, pillows, and blankets in the car and we would head out for a unique evening of fun. By the time I became a young adult, most of these theaters had closed, ending an era of sorts. That’s what makes Paramount Drive-In Theatres so special. It is a wonderfully nostalgic place for those who, like me, grew up seeing movies this way, and a chance for a whole new generation to experience it.
Paramount Drive-In Theatres is a classic outdoor cinema in the Los Angeles County city of Paramount showing first-run movies every night of the week, rain or shine.
There are two 75-foot movie screens, each playing two different films per night. Showtimes vary depending on the time of year (you know, Daylight Savings and all…)
With state-of-the-art digital laser projection and clear Dolby Digital FM radio sound, Paramount offers one of the best drive-in theatre experience anywhere.
The nostalgia of this place does not solely lie in the old-school experience itself, but also in the history of this location. It was first opened in 1948 as Roadium Drive-In which operated until 1989. The property was used as a swap-meet for years after that, finally being renovated and reopened as Paramount Drive-in Theatres in 2014, bringing back a beloved tradition to the site.
Gates open at 6:30 p.m. nightly for the first showing, giving everyone plenty of time to choose their perfect spot, grab some food, and get comfy.
Movie-goers enjoy a clean, safe, friendly atmosphere with plenty of parking and enjoy feature films from the comfort of their own car. Some cuddle up in the front seat while others pop open their hatch-backs and pile up pillows and blankets in the back of their cars for a cozy hangout.
You can, of course, bring any snacks you like from home, but the theatre also has a great snack stand with un updated menu full of great options like fresh pizza, asada fries, funnel cake, and more. And naturally, you can grab some hot, buttery popcorn!
