These 11 Candid Photos Show What Life Was Like In Arkansas In The 1930s

Historic photos reveal what life was like in Arkansas during the 1930s.

We all know that things have changed greatly since the 1930s. However, have you ever actually thought about what those "changes" entail? Well, if so, you’re in luck. We did a little digging and found some historic photos that will give you an idea of what life was like in Arkansas in the 1930s.

1. As part of a drought relief effort, Red Cross volunteers prepare lunch for schoolchildren near Lonoke in this snap from 1930/1931.

2. A snap from 1934 shows the Old State Capitol Building on Markham and Center Streets in Little Rock.

3. Taken in Little Rock in 1935, a congregation socializes outside of church following Sunday service.

4. This up-high shot provides a great view of the famous Bathhouse Row. Though the exact date is unknown, it’s estimated that this picture was taken in the 1920s – 1930s.

Look closely, and you can see the Arlington Hotel in the background.

5. Though many things have changed since this photo was taken in Altheimer in 1938, some have remained the same – such as the Coca-Cola trademark, which is easily recognizable, even in this dated photo.

6. A guest checks-in at the Fordyce Bathhouse in Hot Springs in this candid capture, which was taken in the 1930s.

7. Snapped sometime between the 1930s and 1940s, this group shot was taken in front of Hot Springs’ stately City Hall.

8. Some things never change – such as the beauty of Gulpha Gorge in Hot Springs National Park. This historic photo was snapped in the 1930s.

9. Dated October 1935, this somewhat eerie capture shows the remnants of Zinc, an abandoned mining town.

10. A farmer from Pulaski County reports on his crops to an agent from the U.S.D.A. in September 1931.

11. A group gathers in Fayetteville in October 1938 for the dedication of the University of Arkansas stadium.
