Tucson has received numerous accolades in the past few months, but this one just might take the cake. In a list by Condé Nast Traveler, The Old Pueblo was named among the top 11 worldwide travel destinations for May 2021, and we couldn't agree more. Here are a few of the reasons behind their decision:
Condé Nast Traveler recently published a list of their top 11 travel destinations for May 2021, and we're proud to say Tucson made the cut.
The list doesn't just include American cities - places like Machu Picchu and Mykonos, Greece are also featured - so the honor is even more prestigious.
So what makes the Old Pueblo worthy of being included among bucket list travel destinations from all over the world?
Many things, actually - but we'll start with the food.
Tucson was designated a City of Gastronomy by UNESCO in 2015, and the unassuming El Güero Canelo won a James Beard Award three years later.
El Güero Canelo, a longstanding southside eatery that has since expanded to two other locations, was recognized for its second-to-none Sonoran dogs made in traditional street food fashion.
A city surrounded by nature, downtown Tucson is just 20 minutes from the million-acre Saguaro National Park.
Saguaros are the largest cacti in the U.S. - some can grow as tall as 50 feet - and they can only be found right here in the Sonoran Desert.
Despite having such a dry climate, Tucson is a sight to see in the spring.
Bright and colorful wildflowers fill the desert landscape, and countless hikes let you get up-close and personal with the gorgeous blooms.
If you're in search of a place to stay while you explore the city, Condé Nast recommends Posada by the Joshua Tree House.
Situated on a 40-acre Saguaro forest, this Southwestern-inspired retreat lets you unplug and immerse yourself in nature without sacrificing the creature comforts you know and love.
So, are you ready to start planning your Tucson vacation?
Where in the city will you visit first?
