9 Rare Photos From Alaska That Will Take You Straight To The Past

A collection of old photos showcases Alaska's historical moments and significant events.

For nostalgia's sake, we've gathered together a bunch of old photos of Alaska to throw you into the past. Some you might remember, others were before your time, but these pictures depict Alaska in times of glory and in times of wreckage and deserve a good looking over.

1) White Pass & Yukon Route Parlor Car

This parlor car is from the late 1800's and has that classy, vintage look!

2) Soldiers on Adak

Two brave soldiers on Adak Island during WWII.

3) Wreck of the S.S. Yukon, 1946

The S.S. Yukon became stranded on the reefs extending from the northwestern side of Sannak Island in 1946.

4) Destruction from the 1964 Earthquake

The 1964 earthquake caused wreckage all over Alaska. Here are the remains of a ship in Seward.

5. Additional hurricane damage.

6) Original Valdez Town

This sign is roughly 5 miles NE of the current Valdez, Alaska. The original town was lost in the 1964 earthquake when a majority of the site slid into the Prince William Sound.

7) Skagway... Then and Now

Here is a snapshot with a before and after of Broadway in the early 1900's. Whoa!

8) S.S. Prince George burns in Ketchikan

70 years ago in Ketchikan the Canadian Steamship S.S. Prince George burned into the water. She caught fire at the dock but was towed into the waters when the fire was recognized as uncontrollable. Sadly, she burned in front of the many witnesses on the shores and docks of Ketchikan.

9) Juneau in 1970

Not everyone was around in 1970, but if you remember where these totem poles stood in Juneau let us know! This is a great throwback for Alaska's capital.
