This Is What Alaska Looked Like 100 Years Ago… It May Surprise You

Alright ladies and gents, it's Thursday night and it's time for some throwbacks. Have you ever wondered what Alaska looked like, say, 100 years ago? Well I have. Alaska, just like anywhere else, must have been so different at the start of the twentieth-century.

Yet, we all know Alaska is a special state, a little different from all the rest, so with that in mind I was even more intrigued by the thought of what it looked like back in the day. If you happen to be just as curious as I am, than you'll enjoy all these old photos of places we still know and love today!

1) Fairbanks

This looks like a picture right out of a winter wonderland! Fairbanks in the early 1900's was the place to be!

2) Skagway

Here is a great then & now shot of Broadway Street in the early 1900's.

3) Ketchikan

This is a picture of Historic Creek Street. It used to be home to fishing camps but now it's Ketchikan's downtown district with fine shopping and restaurants.

4) Nome

This is a great shot of Nome in 1900.

5) Valdez

What a beautiful shot of the city of Valdez in 1908. Recognize any of the churches or buildings?

6) Old Kasaan

Here is a great shot of the totems of Old Kasaan just outside of Ketchikan. The totems, which are located in the ruins of an old Haida Indian village, have been moved since the time of the photograph.

7) Kenai River Bridge
