Oak Glen, found in San Bernardino National Forest, is one of the most peaceful places you can live in our region. It’s a lovely spot if you’re looking for a rural setup that is free of any of the typical city-based problems like traffic or too much hustle and bustle. It’s one of the most charming small towns around and a great choice if you’re interested in living off the grid in Southern California.

You’ll find lots of farms in this mountain-based community, so you won’t have too much trouble finding fresh local food. The produce is incredible, and you’ll find yourself excited for each new season and its natural bounty.

Which hikes in Southern California should I go on?

The best way to explore the natural wonder of our great state is by taking a hike in Southern California. Lace-up your boots and step out on these trails:

  • Potato Chip Rock is named as such because it looks just like a potato chip floating in midair. It's an eight-mile hike to reach the rock but you will be well rewarded with awe-inspiring views of surrounding SoCal.
  • Mt. San Jacinto in San Jacinto State Park is a thrilling hike because you have to take a tram to the top of the mountain to explore the trails. This one is definitely for thrill seekers.
  • San Clemente Beach trail is about 4.5 miles long and runs beside railroad tracks. You'll get stellar views of the ocean as you hike.

 

Are there any waterfalls in Southern California to check out? 

You can find so many gorgeous waterfalls in Southern California that are gorgeous in all seasons. Check out these falls for a particularly special view:

  • Escondido Falls in Malibu falls straight out of a fairy tale. This tiered waterfall is dripping in greenery, and the hike to find the falls is almost as beautiful as the falls themselves.
  • Heart Rock Falls in Crestline is not too well known, but that's great cause you'll likely get them all to yourself! Keep your eyes peeled for the heart-shaped cutout the falls are named after.
  • Tahquitz Falls in Riverside County can be reached by a two-mile hike through the desert. It's a fun site to see some water deep in the desert!

 

Are there any natural wonders in Southern California? 

There are so many breathtaking natural wonders in Southern California just waiting to be discovered, some of the best are:

  • Lava Tube in Mojave National Preserve, which is a cave unlike any other. A unique hole in the top creates a sort of sunroof that allows a single beam of light in to illuminate the cave.
  • Moreton Bay Fig Tree in Santa Barbara is the largest fig tree in the country. It's so close to perfect that it's hard to believe it's real.
  • The Trona Pinnacles in the Mojave Dessert are a collection of tufa spires that dot the landscape of the desert. They are thousands of years old but have a slightly comical look.
