Polar Express Train Ride In South Carolina

October 12, 2019

What other Christmas train rides can I take in South Carolina?

Found on the only recreational/scenic train in the state, the Santa Express is the only Christmas train available in South Carolina. But don’t worry, there are plenty of other places in which to enjoy special holiday attractions (see below).

What are the best holiday events in South Carolina for families?

From a magical Christmas lights safari where you’ll get to hand-feed zebras and more to holiday expos, decorated gardens, and oh-so much more, there are plenty of places to enjoy special holiday attractions and events throughout South Carolina. The annual Night of Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet features special evenings where more than 5,000 candles are lit along with hundreds of thousands of holiday lights adorning the landscaped gardens and trees. Head over to Myrtle Beach for the annual Victorian Holiday Market, the Dickens Christmas Show, held the second weekend in November, and walk through nearly a million Christmas lights at Riverbanks Zoo during the annual Lights Before Christmas event.

Where can I see the best Christmas light displays in South Carolina?

Along the Grand Strand, Brookgreen Gardens hosts an annual event called Nights of Thousand Candles on select evenings in November and December. See these perfectly manicured gardens in a whole new light at this spectacular lights display. In the Lowcountry, head to James Island County Park for the annual Festival of Lights, a drive-through display that also features a walk-through exhibit, a seasonal gift store, and hot chocolate. In the Midlands, check out the Holiday Lights on the River at Saluda Shoals Park where you’ll drive through a light show, walk through a river-side display of lights, meet Santa, make s’mores by the fire, and more. And in the Upstate, head over to Hollywild Park for a drive-through Christmas lights safari that includes feeding many exotic animals by hand.
