Christmas lights in South Carolina

November 17, 2021

Are there any Christmas towns in South Carolina?

If a Christmas zoo is good, a Christmas town is great, right? South Carolina is full of festive locales, both big and small, that deck their halls to the nines for the holidays. Every year in December, the best winter town in South Carolina changes its name (they really go all in!) for four festive days; and, with or without snow, transforms into a veritable winter wonderland. It’s a perfect place to spend a day or a night and kick off your holiday season on a high note in one of the most festive towns in South Carolina. Curious to learn more? What are some other drive-thru Christmas lights in South Carolina?

While South Carolina typically doesn't get too cold during the holidays, there's something so inherently cozy about loading up the family car (in pjs, preferably), cruising through the local coffee drive-thru for hot chocolates, cranking up the tunes, and venturing out on a little light peeping excursion! Here are five of our favorite drive-thru Christmas lights events in South Carolina; they are located all throughout the state, so there's sure to be a dazzling display near you! The largest drive-through light show in the state is found at James Island County Park and features more than two million lights and three miles of displays to drive through. After, visitors can park and enter the enchanted light trail for even more Christmas light displays, visit Santa, shop for sweets and more, roast marshmallows, hop aboard the festival train, and take a spin on the holiday carousel.

What's the most unique holiday light display in South Carolina?

South Carolinians: start your engines and head to the Greenville Pickens Speedway this season to see the track in a whole new light! The grand displays at this drive-through light show feature 32 million colors (not to be confused with 32 million lights) dressing out the speedway to the nines. When finished, park and check out the pony corral and take a twirl on the ice rink, then head over to Santa Land. While the lights are on every night of the week, some of the additional activities will only open on the weekend. Upstate Holiday Lights is open throughout December, rain or shine.
