Here Are The Top 15 Christmas Towns In South Carolina. They’re Magical.

The holiday season has finally arrived. I love all of the hustle and bustle that comes with the season, as well as the togetherness, renewed faith, and generosity it inspires. Towns all across the Palmetto State decorate, celebrate, and embrace one another with holiday cheer. We rounded up some photos (mostly from past Christmas seasons) of the best Christmas towns in South Carolina. Have fun checking them out and let them add a bit of Christmas spirit to your day!

During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.

It’s really not a competition, you know. The Christmas spirit is everywhere, including where you live. If your city┬ádidn’t make the list I can assure you it wasn’t because we thought you don’t have any┬áChristmas spirit. Because we know that you do. The holiday spirit is alive in all of South Carolina, and nowhere does it better than these Christmas towns!

Please feel free to post photos of the Christmas spirit in your city in our South Carolina Nature Lovers Facebook group. I, for one, would love to see them. You can also check out some of the prettiest Christmas sights in the state on this South Carolina Holiday Lights Road Trip.

Best Christmas Towns In South Carolina

December 18, 2020

Is South Carolina a good place to visit in the winter?

Winter in South Carolina is something many people enjoy living in the state for. The hot and humid summers give way to mild, comfortable winters. The temperature varies depending on where you are in the state. On the coast, it’s usually warmer, with average daily temperature highs around 60 degrees. Further inland it may be closer to 50 degrees during the day, and just around freezing at night. It makes for a great winter destination if you want to escape freezing snow, plus there are plenty of great holiday events to experience. Even beyond those, there are tons of things to see and do in the Palmetto State no matter what time of year.

What are the best holiday events in South Carolina?

There are many places to visit at Christmas in South Carolina, namely special annual events that draw in thousands of attendees every year. One of the best ones is the Holiday Festival of Lights. James Island in Charleston, South Carolina comes alight with two million lights put together in over 700 displays. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. It’s a drive-thru light display that spans over three miles. You can stay warm and relax in your car as you drive through the colorful, dazzling setups. Plus, the festival also includes a holiday carousel, food, and even a visit from Santa Claus himself. Read more about this festival here.

Where can I see the best light displays in South Carolina?

Charming small towns in South Carolina aren’t the only places that you can experience some lovely holiday displays. You can check out even more stunning decorations by checking out these drive-thru light displays. Easley, South Carolina hosts the Upstate Holiday Light Show. The Greenville Pickens Speedway track turns into a winter wonderland with millions of colors to enchant visitors. North Myrtle Beach hosts The Great Christmas Lightshow each year. There are 1.5-miles of lights to drive through followed by a visit to Santa’s Village. It’s great fun for the whole family, and generally inexpensive, too. You’ll find a whole list of them in South Carolina here.
