What Are Some Great Things To Do On A Trip To Narragansett?

Want to work up an appetite before a seafood feast or four? Try these fun outdoor activities.

  • Crescent Beach, also known as Fred Benson Town Beach, is one of the most picturesque waterfronts in this small town. It's a popular spot on Block Island and is usually packed with tourists for a good reason. This happens to be the best beach in the area to search for seashells, and kids will love digging through the sand to discover the colored remnants of the animals that washed up on shore long ago. You never know what you'll find, and the beach is well-furnished so you can easily spend hours here.
  • The Black Point Trail is a perfect hiking adventure for when you want to go a little off the beaten path. Found along the coastline, rather than in any state park, it's a 2.1-mile out-and-back trail considered an easy and beautiful hike for families. The highlight of the hike is the ruins on Scarborough Beach, which used to be home to an impressive mansion. The ruins will eventually fall into the ocean, but for now they make an impressive photo op!
  • Frances Fleet is one of the best boat tour companies in Rhode Island, and it sets sail from late June through the beginning of September from the port at 33 State Street. This 4.5-hour excursion is ideal for those who want to see whales and dolphins, and the experienced guides are great at pointing out sightings and making a fun day of it. While sightings are never guaranteed, if weather or other factors prevent sightings the company provides a voucher for a cruise at a later date.
