The 5.4-Mile Winter Hike In Pennsylvania That’s Positively Bewitching

We can all probably agree that the Pennsylvania landscape is so very beautiful all year round. However, when sprinkled in snow and frozen in ice, it takes on a magical, enchanting aura. We can enjoy that beauty from the coziness of home. Or, we can bundle up for a brisk, refreshing winter hike in Pennsylvania – like this one that will take you to the highest point (and some of the very best views) in the state.

If you've been to the top of Mount Davis in Forbes State Forest during the warmer months or in the autumn, you already know that gorgeous views await.

However, you might not realize just how positively bewitching the views are after a fresh snowfall when the sky is a cool winter gray.

Mount Davis Highpoint Trail clocks in at 5.4 miles and has earned a moderate rating from AllTrails, so be prepared for a bit of a challenge. While the trail is predominately flat, you'll face some inclines and rocky terrain.

If you're not up for trekking the entire trail, you can still enjoy those sensational views.

The observation tower sits about a mile into the hike, so you can climb it and then double back to the beginning of the trail.

Take caution as you climb to the top of the tower, especially if there's snow and ice on the stairs.

Some hikers recommend doing the trail counterclockwise so you'll arrive at the observation tower at the end. No matter which way you go, make sure you stop at the tower.

The trail can get pretty busy during the warmer months. However, if you're lucky, you'll find it's quite quiet at times during the winter.
