Next time you're craving an authentic Italian meal, make your way to Pittsburgh's own Little Italy. Stroll along Liberty Avenue dotted with Italian restaurants, groceries, and other shops. Embrace your Italian heritage or simply soak up the vibrant atmosphere in the charming Pittsburgh neighborhood of Bloomfield.
Bloomfield's been a bustling Pittsburgh neighborhood since the 1800s. After World War I, scores of Italian immigrants settled in the charming neighborhood, bringing with them a rich cultural heritage.
A close knit community from the start, Bloomfield eventually became known as Pittsburgh's Little Italy.
Wander down Liberty Avenue where you'll discover an assortment of scrumptious Italian restaurants. Alexander's Italian Bistro (pictured below) features such dishes as wild mushroom ravioli, eggplant Alexander, and tortellini verde.
Sit down at Adolfo's for a scrumptious meal of lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, or linguine white claim. Adolfo's also offers sandwiches, fish, salad, and soup.
Stop by Donatelli's Italian Food Center or Groceria Italiana to stock up on all the ingredients you need to make a delicious meal of your own.
Or, fill your shopping bags with freshly baked bread, fresh pasta, or Italian meats and cheeses.
Of course, no visit to Bloomfield would be complete without a stop at one of its bakeries. Sanchioli Brother's Bakery, for example, has been a staple in the community since 1921. Visit for freshly baked bread, rolls, and hoagie buns.
Every August the Bloomfield community celebrates Little Italy Days. The multi-day festive features authentic Italian food, bocce, a version of American Idol, a Little Miss Italy contest, and plenty of live entertainment.
