There Are More Than 12 Haunted Places In The Town Of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Alone

A history as rich as Pennsylvania’s backstory usually comes with an abundance of tales of the paranormal. One of the best places to experience the paranormal is Gettysburg, known for the bloodiest battle during the Civil War. Just about everywhere you go in town, you’re sure to hear about the many haunted places in Gettysburg – and you might even experience the paranormal for yourself.

Exploring haunted places in Gettysburg is easy – if you know where to look. Embark on a self-guided tour, or join a guided tour of what’s been called the most haunted town in Pennsylvania.

Gettysburg National Military Park, the site of the Civil War’s bloodiest battle, is home to Devil’s Den, said to be teeming with the paranormal.

Visitors to Devil’s Den, as sunset nears, tell of smelling smoke and seeing soldiers marching towards them. Still others share a tale about a young man in a floppy hat posing for a photo with them, but…he never appears in the photo.

Sachs Covered Bridge offers a peek into the past and a chilling tale of the paranormal.

Three Confederate Army soldiers are said to have been hanged for treason at the covered bridge. Visitors often tell of the scent of cigar smoke and the sound of strange voices. Some have even felt a touch on their shoulders – but no one is there.

A lone civilian died during the Battle of Gettysburg. The Jennie Wade House, named after the victim, offers tours.

Jennie’s spirit is said to remain in her home, so don’t be too surprised if you hear doors slamming, feel a rush of cold air, or feel as though a child is grabbing on to your legs. Children’s voices are often heard in the home, too.

A Civil War nurse named Rachel is often seen in the halls and in guests’ rooms at The Gettysburg Hotel. No one knows for what or for whom she is looking.

Hotel guests also tell of seeing a Union soldier, who apparently died at the hotel during its time as a Civil War hospital, in the halls.

Dig into a hearty meal and a helping of the paranormal at the Dobbin House Tavern, a former stop on the Underground Railroad.

Local legend tells of splatters of blood that mysteriously appear on the walls of the tavern. As suddenly as they appear, they disappear.

If you’re really brave, you’ll find a few places, including The David Stewart Farm, the Tillie Pierce House, and the Farnsworth House Inn, to stay overnight, too.
