The Oldest Bar In Oklahoma Has A Fascinating History
There’s only a handful of establishments in the Sooner State that have been around for more than a century and one of these is Eischen’s Bar in Okarche. It’s not only known as the “oldest bar in Oklahoma” but it’s also famous for its fried chicken. Take a look at this place and the fascinating history that goes along with it.
Eischen's Saloon, as it was first called, opened in 1896 by Peter Eischen and operated until Statehood and Prohibition.
It reopened as Eischen's Bar after the end of Prohibition by the owner's son and grandson. It is now located at 109 South 2nd in Okarche. You can enter through the front of the building or thru the back.
As the oldest bar in the state, you would think it would feel like an antique but that's not necessarily the case. There are several older pieces but it's been updated over time.
It was shipped to California during the Gold Rush and made its way back to Okarche in 1950. It then survived a fire at Eischen's in 1993, and is one of the few things that remains from pre-fire days.
The menu only has about eight items on it, but with fried chicken to die for, you don't need much more. They also serve beer, soft drinks and wine coolers. Sorry, no coffee or tea.
Make sure you leave the credit and debit cards at home because they only accept cash and personal checks. Bring the family out and enjoy a delicious meal in this historical establishment.
If you visit Eischen’s Bar make sure you try the amazing fried chicken! Check out these two other restaurants that have been open for over a century in Oklahoma. They are just as fascinating as Eischen’s!
