Where do you go when you want to take a scenic drive in the Sooner State? Head to eastern Oklahoma to The Talimena National Scenic Byway – a 54-mile dreamy drive that’s the most spectacular scenic drive in the state. You don’t have to wait until fall to enjoy the beauty of this epic drive. Follow along below and we’ll show you the way.
The Talimena National Scenic Byway starts from the west in the town of Talihina, Oklahoma, and ends in Mena, Arkansas.
The drive is 54-miles long and takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes without any stops. We recommend you allow at least a half a day to enjoy all the stops along the way.
You'll be driving through the crest of Rich Mountain and Winding Stair Mountain in the Ouachita National Forest - which is known as one of the beautiful areas in the state.
But the real beauty is seen along the drive as you make your way along the top of the mountains. During the spring season, the greenery is lush and magical.
There are 22 scenic vista pull-outs along the way so there are plenty of places to admire the stunning views. Plus, there's a visitor center along the route where you can stop in and get more information.
