From Dawn To Dusk, Here’s The Perfect Overnight Adventure In Milford, Ohio
Milford, Ohio, offers a charming and scenic destination with a mix of outdoor activities, local businesses, and unique dining experiences.
Tucked away in the southwest corner of the Buckeye State, there is an impossibly charming town that's perfectly suited for an overnight adventure. Milford, Ohio, is historic, walkable, and immensely scenic, full of small-town charm and amazing outdoor recreation. I might be biased -- I grew up in Milford and my parents still live there -- but as an adult, I've developed a deep appreciation for my hometown. I think you will, too, after checking out this overnight adventure I put together in marvelous Milford, Ohio:
Milford is a town of about 6,800 in Southwest Ohio. It's a river town that's located on the banks of the Little Miami, and its cobblestone-lined downtown is full of local restaurants and well-supported businesses.
In addition to boasting a bustling downtown district, Milford is home to one of the state's most beautiful natural oases: the Cincinnati Nature Center. Head to Rowe Woods for a morning hike; the Cincinnati Nature Center is home to a number of trails and even an old-growth forest! It was one of my favorite places to go as a kid; now, it's one of my favorite places to go with *my* four kids.
After a morning in nature, it's time to head back into town to explore. From Spiral Groove Records to That Shop In Milford (an amazing antiques store!), you'll be delighted by the many local businesses to peruse in this walkable downtown.
Once your stomach starts rumbling, break for lunch at a local favorite: The Governor. This 55-seat restaurant is named for John M. Pattison, whose Victorian mansion Promont is a beloved Milford landmark. Though only a few years old, it has a decidedly old soul and has become a beloved part of the town's core.
You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I highly recommend the grilled cheese and tomato soup. It's a classic and one of the restaurant's signature dishes; the perfect pre-paddling fuel, because after lunch...
...we're going kayaking! With a prime location along the banks of the Little Miami River, paddling is very popular in Milford. Scenic River Canoe Excursions is a local outfitter that's open seasonally and offers 6- and 8.5-mile trips. For me, there's nothing more soul-satisfying than an afternoon on the water... and the views along the Little Miami are absolutely breathtaking.
Don't get *too* in the zone as you paddle away, however. Little Miami Brewing is located literally ON the river, making it a popular detour for paddlers.
Grab a beer and wood-fired pizza and sit outside for awhile... what's the rush? The loaded nachos are also a solid choice that really hit the spot after an afternoon on the water.
We've hiked, we've shopped, we've paddled, we've dined... it's been a day of adventure, and we're ready to relax! While there are numerous places to stay in Ohio, we found a cozy guest house in nearby Batavia that checks all the boxes for our Milford adventure.
This well-appointed VRBO has the feel of a B&B with the privacy of a secluded cabin. It has the amenities of a resort -- a hot tub *and* pool! -- with the comfort of a farmhouse. It's perfect.
Even better? This luxury guesthouse is nestled on 40 pristine acres in the country, complete with a private lake and views.for.days. Come and have an adventure in Milford, Ohio, and you'll understand why it's such a special place.
Places to go, people to see, things to do... AND places to stay? Milford, Ohio, might not be the first place that comes to mind in terms of overnight adventures or weekend getaways, but don't discount this mid-sized town. It's one of many charming towns in Ohio worthy of your attention.
