1. Cold Stream Trail
Located in the famous
Donner Memorial State Park, set about an hour aside to hike this easy route.
Try out the variety of terrain on this 3.6-mile out-and-back trail.
This hike offers a slight uphill in the beginning but levels out along the way, with a nice creek on the side.
As you hike along, take in the spectacular scenery offering views of the Sierra Crest ridgeline.
2. Truckee River Legacy Trail
For a longer, 9.6-mile out-and-back hike, try this trail. It is an easy path going from the trailhead at Glenshire Drive to the Truckee River Regional Park, taking about three hours to complete.
The beautiful, paved path with some incline, features tables, benches, and interpretive signs.
Again, this one comes with gorgeous views of the Sierra Crest and the Truckee River.
3. Johnson Canyon Overlook via the Glacier Way Trailhead
This 3.9-mile out-and-back trail offers another big view payoff. As part of the Tahoe Donner Trail System, this easy route takes about an hour-and-a-half to complete.
The kid-friendly, rocky trail has a super easy first mile, with such activities as jumping on rocks, looking at wildflowers, birds, and other wildlife along the way. Up ahead there are some narrow curves, so watch out for bicyclists.
This lovely hike offers scenic views of Johnson Canyon, Tahoe Donner Lake, and surrounding areas with amazing vistas.
4. China Cove Trail Loop
You'll need to pack a swimsuit for this sweet 3.2-mile easy loop taking about an hour to walk. It is also located in Donner Memorial State Park.
The ample beach views accompany you on this trail and only get better as you go along.
Pack a picnic, bring some chairs and an umbrella for a dip in the cool lake.
