Spring is finally here and all of the plants of North Dakota are coming back to life. One of the most beautiful parts of this time of year is the return of the state’s many native wildflowers. The best spots to view these flowers in their natural setting is definitely in the many state parks. There is a particular state park that has one of the best wildflower trails, and here’s why you’ll love it:

The trail is located in Fort Ransom State Park, a park located in the Sheyenne River Valley near Fort Ransom, North Dakota.

There are many trails in this state park, but the best one to view the wildflowers is the Little Twig Nature Trail.

This trail meanders through the trees, over wooden bridges crossing creeks, and down into serene meadows.

In the spring and summer the meadows turn into vibrant blankets of color.

The native prairie grasses and flowers can be spotted all along the trail, creating a beautiful array.

The Little Twig Nature Trail is just under a mile long and is fun for hikers of all skill levels.

Some of the flowers that can be seen here include purple prairie clovers, coneflowers, pasque flowers, wild bergamot, and many more.

Different flowers bloom at different times of the year, so be sure to come here throughout the spring and summer to see it shift and change in color.

The park's visitors center has field guides and plant checklists to help you identify all the flowers and other types of natural vegetation while on the trail.
