A well-known road trip called the “Road to Nowhere” cuts across America from Canada all the way to Texas. It begins right here in North Dakota! Fill up the tank and head out on this road trip for some interesting memories:
The "Road to Nowhere" follows US Highway 83 from the Canadian border all the way into Texas, cutting across America's heartland.
Continuing south, it eventually reaches Garrison, North Dakota and the Garrison Dam. The route will take you right in between Lake Audubon and Lake Sakakawea, one on each side of the road for quite the sight.
Many historical sites and museums can be found along the Road to Nowhere. These included places like Fort Mandan, the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, and Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park (shown below).
The route continues through the huge open fields and into gently rolling plains as it gets further south. Another great stop on this trip to see North Dakota's nature is the Cross Ranch State Park near Washburn, North Dakota.
As it gets closer to the North Dakota and South Dakota border, you will pass through the towns Linton and Strasburg. The latter has another must-see stop, the birthplace of the famous Lawrence Welk.
