Camping in North Dakota is one of the best decisions you can make during the summer. If you have a weekend off and need something outdoorsy to do, then this is it. There are plenty of awesome campgrounds and unique spots all over the state that are perfect to pitch a tent and enjoy a night out under the stars. Whether you are a seasoned camping pro or just want to get away from it all for a little while, here are 7 camping spots you don’t want to miss:
1. Turtle River State Park - Grand Forks
Enjoy the scenic views surrounding the Turtle River at this great state park. They have campgrounds, cabins, plenty of trails, and everything you need for the perfect camping trip. It is quaint and quiet and great for a relaxing getaway.
2. Cottonwood Campground - Medora
If you're going to camp near Medora, definitely check out the Cottonwood Campground. This place is right on the edge of the Little Missouri River, nestled among the badlands, and is popular with visitors other than just people. Don't be surprised if you see wild horses or bison passing by! It will truly make an unforgettable experience when you sleep under the stars here.
3. Lindenwood Park - Fargo
Right in North Dakota's biggest city is a fantastic park that makes you feel like you're miles away from it all, when you're really right in town. The trees surrounding the river have lots of camping spots for both primitive camping and RVs.
4. Crown Butte Lake - Mandan
This charming spot has plenty of camping options to enjoy the peacefulness out here. You can spend the day relaxing and fishing or walking the trails, then pitch your tent and take in the fresh air for the night.
5. Cross Ranch State Park - Hensler
Take a trip to this incredible state park and experience what might be the best camping trip of your life. Located on the untouched banks of the Missouri River, the prairie and the water come together to form some really beautiful views. You can sleep in your own tent or RV or rent one of their cabins or yurts and take a well deserved vacation here.
6. Fort Ransom State Park - Fort Ransom
This stunning park surrounding part of the Sheyenne River Valley has some of the best camping in the entire state. Along with tons of campgrounds and trails, they have a few gorgeous yurts that are like staying in a luxury hotel but out in the wilderness. This is a great spot for "glamping."
7. McDowell Dam - Bismarck
A scenic lakeside view awaits you at this pleasant recreational area. It's usually not very busy here, making this a wonderful place to just immerse yourself in some peace and quiet for as long as you need.
