The Tar Heel State is the permanent home to a number of legendary figures who are buried here. But few people realize that one of the most iconic figures in the music and entertainment world is laid to rest right in the North Carolina front yard of the home he shared with his beloved wife.

The Wolfman (real name Robert Weston Smith) was born in New York in 1938.

By 1960, after graduating from the National Academy of Broadcasting in Washington D.C., he began a 35-year career in broadcasting that ended abruptly at his home in Belvidere, North Carolina, within a week after his last broadcast in the summer of 1995.
Wolfman Jack died of a heart attack. He was a mere 57 years old.

In the 1960s, the Wolfman's rise to fame climbed even higher when he took a job just over the Mexico border at a radio station broadcasting at 250,000 watts - two and a half times the legal limit for radio stations in the U.S. The mammoth signal allowed folks in every state in America to hear his prose and laugh at his on-air antics.

He played himself in "American Graffiti" and had cameo on-screen and voice-overs in other feature films. His television career included guest appearances on "Hollywood Squares," "The Odd Couple," and "Married with Children," to name only a few.
Weston's headstone features his Wolfman Jack name as well as some of the wacky and wonderful phrases he made so famous during his career.
