There’s No Other Museum In America Quite Like This One In North Carolina
We already know that North Carolina is home to quite a few head-turning museums that will quickly get your attention, but there’s a new out-of-the-ordinary attraction that we can almost guarantee you haven’t visited yet. The latest hidden treasure to hit the western corner of our state, this one quirky museum that just recently opened is unlike any other that you’ve ever visited.
Nestled amongst the mountains in Jackson County, the small town of Sylva has given you another reason to come explore this beautiful area.
Known by those in the area as "The Cat Man," Harold Sims has turned his over 30-year collection of all things cat related into one of our favorite new museums.
Where cat-lovers can now come to rejoice, you'll see a variety of things like a hand-carved carousel cat to an actual petrified cat that looks like it deserves to be a character in the Coraline movie.
Open every day except Monday, the museum is run by volunteers with Harold Sims often making appearances to provide wonderful details about all the pieces here.
You don't earn the nickname "The Cat Man" so easily! The things you see at this new museum you won't find just anywhere, with peeks into the past of how humans and felines have long interacted throughout history. If you need further incentive to visit this curious place, excess money earned after covering museum costs will be given to the local no-kill cat shelter that Sims runs.
