The Oldest Hotel In North Carolina Is Also One Of The Most Haunted Places You’ll Ever Sleep
It stands to reason that an old hotel in one of the oldest towns in the state would be haunted. But the untold story of the resident ghost at this historic hotel in Winston-Salem may surprise you. If you believe souls or energies can exist beyond the grave, then this unsettled spirit may be the paranormal encounter you finally document.
The Brookstown Inn is a living history museum of sorts. It's located in an old cotton mill that began in 1837.
Much of the architectural elements of the original structure have been carefully preserved and are a distinct focal point for the inn. Exposed brick walls, and wooden ceilings add to the charm of the building. Ordinarily, the guest rooms are bright and airy.
The resident ghost at Brookstown Inn is reportedly named Sally. Back in the days when this building was still a mill, the fourth floor was used as a dormitory for some of the women working at the mill. Two of them got into a fight and one pushed the other down the elevator shaft.
Now, guests and staff at this historic hotel often talk of seeing an apparition known as Sally, the woman murdered in that fall into the elevator shaft. She's seen most often up on the fourth floor.
And folks taking photos often find when they get home and look closely at their gallery of shots an occasional orb or unexplained shadow in the shape of a figure.
The Brookstown Inn is located just steps from Old Salem, one of the most haunted spots in the state. The Old Salem Museum and Gardens is only a few blocks away. And the hotel is adjacent to a visitors center and lovely sunken courtyard.
Have you stayed in this historic old (haunted) mill that's been converted into a lovely place to get acquainted with Old Salem? We'd love to know if you encountered Sally!
