This 1.4-mile Richland Balsam Nature Loop Trail is a moderately challenging route starting in Waynesville, North Carolina.

Named for the red spruce and Fraser fir trees found here, follow the lovely balsam scent throughout.
The trail has a few challenges, such as tree roots and fallen trees, when a walking stick might come in handy.

Hit the road and travel just about halfway between the Balsam Gap (U.S. 23-74) and N.C. Highway 215 parkway entrance, until you come to milepost 431.4. The trail is just about a mile away.
Richland Balsam Overlook is the highest point on the parkway where you can take in the free and unforgettable panoramic views of the Nantahala National Forest.
