“The oldest miniature golf course in the United States” is a surprisingly contentious title. There are several courses that claim to be the very first of their kind. Whispering Pines Mini Golf is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Opened in 1930, its layout has not changed over the years. It truly set the stage for later mini golf courses to come, and has windmills, pipes, and other obstacles that would become mainstays of the putt putt world.

The course is nautical-themed, loaded with decorative turtles and crabs. The decorations are fitting since it's located just a few blocks from Irondequoit Bay.

The fad was pretty short-lived and faded within a few years, but there are still quite a few courses throughout the U.S. They make for great family fun!
If you're a putt putt fanatic, you might actually find the course to be a bit of a challenge in addition to its historic value!

It's interesting to see how many aspects of the course, like the windmill and bridge, were to eventually become commonplace in miniature golf courses across the country.
There are several multi-level courses and there are small lips around the holes, so it's difficult to score under par!
