For most of us who live here in New York, we like to choose to take the long way home so that we can enjoy our state's beautiful scenic drives. In the past, we've talked about how the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway is the windiest road that you could possibly drive on in the Empire State — with too many curves to keep track of. If you happen to live out in Central New York though, you might be familiar with another winding road that's earned quite the reputation.
Just outside of the city where you're close enough to still technically have a Syracuse address yet find yourself halfway to Skaneateles, Cedarvale Road isn't your ordinary drive to take home.
Over the years, Cedarvale Road has become more commonly known as 13 Curves — where a deadly car accident was said to have taken place many years ago.
While the exact details of the story vary depending on which local you hear it from, but overall the main theme continues to be the same for 13 Curves.
One night, a newlywed couple was driving along Cedarvale Road when their car crashed into the creek you'll see along the side of the road.
After the accident, the husband who was driving the car reportedly found his bride had died upon impact, leaving a chilling stain on this small-town road.
Since the accident took place, many who have traveled along this road claimed to have seen the bloody bride relentlessly searching for her husband.
While some have just had the spine-tingling experience of seeing her along the road, others have claimed that the bloody bride gets so enraged over her death that she attempts to make others crash their cars into the creek.
A tale that's been told for more than 60 years now, this one-mile stretch of Cedarvale Road is one that you'll either be intrigued to drive along or you'll make a point to stay away from.
The tale is one that's been told for so long and so many believe in that it's even been documented by the Onondaga Historical Association. The historical association has kept track of all the claims that locals in the area have made about their experiences along 13 Curves, filed under local folklore and superstitions.
