This Secluded State Park In New York Is So Worthy Of An Adventure

New York is a great place, but sometimes it can feel a little crowded. New York City is, of course, one of the most visited places in the world. Even natural attractions like Ausable Chasm and Letchworth State Park can get overrun with people in the busy season. If you're looking for a little peace and quiet, there are plenty of secluded state parks in New York to enjoy. Highland Lakes State Park is one of our favorites. At over 3,100 acres, there's plenty of room to explore, and it attracts less than 4,000 visitors a year, so you'll have uninterrupted relaxation.

Highland Lakes State Park is mostly undeveloped, meaning it doesn't have some of the amenities you'll find at other state parks. There are no bathrooms or playgrounds, no pavilions or picnic tables.

But what you will find here is seclusion, beauty, and tranquility.

This park features an easy loop trail around two ponds and a lake. It's perfect for walking dogs.

The trails are not maintained by the state, so definitely wear long pants and high socks. As always, wear insect repellent in warm weather and make sure to check yourself (and Fido) for ticks after walking through any grassy areas!

If you are looking for hidden gems in New York, it doesn't get much more undiscovered than this.

The surroundings are beautiful and you'll feel miles away from civilization (and your worries!).

The serene atmosphere makes this an ideal spot for fishing. There are several ponds and lakes throughout the parks, so there are plenty of areas to cast your line.

Horses are allowed, though anyone wishing to ride at the park needs to get a permit first.

While this secluded state park in New York may not have all the features of better-known parks, there's a lot of beauty to see here.
