There's No Chapel In The World Like This One In New York
Our state is known for some pretty remarkable achievements, but did you know that New York is supposedly home to the world’s smallest church? A roughly ten minute drive just off the thruway will bring you to Mason Road in Oneida, where you’ll be able to view this tiny white church set up in the middle of a pond! Accessible by rowboat, Cross Island Chapel is like nothing you’ve ever seen.
From afar, the miniature church looks like something you'd see set up in a family's backyard to be used for dolls.
Named the Cross Island Chapel, there has never appeared to have actually been an island in the small pond. Set up on a tiny wooden platform, just a stone's throw away from the chapel you'll see a wooden cross set up in a small patch of rocks. Could this perhaps have once been Cross Island or was this all there ever was?
If it wasn't for the sign out front, most people wouldn't even think it'd be possible to fit any grown adults inside!
The chapel is large enough inside to squeeze in 3 people total, two partners and someone to perform their marriage. Once you get closer the chapel you'll be able to see that there are two charming stained glass windows, adding just a splash of detail to the overall plain appearance.
Just as the sign says below, this unique church in Oneida comes in at just under 30 square feet. Wow!
Forced to invite all those pesky family members to your wedding that you don't actually want to see on your special day? Then maybe the Cross Island Chapel is for you. With only enough room for you and your special someone inside the chapel, guests are forced to watch from the road!
Who knew such a unique wedding venue existed right here in New York?
