A roughly ten minute drive just off the thruway will bring you to Mason Road in Oneida, where you’ll be able to view this tiny white church set up in the middle of a pond! Accessible by rowboat, Cross Island Chapel is like nothing you’ve ever seen.
Named the Cross Island Chapel, there has never appeared to have actually been an island in the small pond. Set up on a tiny wooden platform, just a stone's throw away from the chapel you'll see a wooden cross set up in a small patch of rocks. Could this perhaps have once been Cross Island or was this all there ever was?
The chapel is large enough inside to squeeze in 3 people total, two partners and someone to perform their marriage. Once you get closer the chapel you'll be able to see that there are two charming stained glass windows, adding just a splash of detail to the overall plain appearance.
