Camping can be fun, no matter what the season. Sure, nothing beats a roaring fire in the fall or a humid summer night spent eating and talking around a campsite, but it’s also quite enjoyable to do some camping in the colder winter months. Whether roughing it outdoors or tucking into a warm cabin, it’s fun to enjoy the snow outside of the confines of a city or town. And when it comes to winter camping, Blue Mountain Campground in Saugerties is one of our favorites. It might just be the best year-round campground in New York State. To learn more, keep reading, below.
Blue Mountain Campground is situated at the base of the Catskill Mountains, close to the border between Ulster and Green Counties.
For those that prefer not to camp out there in the cold, they can rent out a lodge on site, which is fully furnished and includes a full bath, kitchen and a living room stocked with a couch and a TV. For a more rustic (but still elevated) stay, Blue Mountain also has cabins available.
Visitors can also enjoy amenities including a camp store and a game room. There is also on-site laundry and a playground, which is perhaps more suited for the warmer months.
There are plenty of great attractions around the campground, especially when it comes to nature. The Mohonk Preserve and Lake Minnewaska are especially beautiful in the winter. Nearby Downtown Saugerties and Woodstock will be paradise for antiques enthusiasts.
Whether it's by tent or by RV; whether it's in a cabin or more comfortable furnishings, a winter stay at Blue Mountain would be a great way for any resident of New York State to spend a winter weekend.
For a beautiful camping experience, we think campers should check out Blue Mountain—either this winter, or in a more hospitable month of the year. It’s definitely the best year-round campground in New York State. While in the Saugerties area, why not also check out Opus 40, which is an amazing sculpture park located in town. And for those looking for a hotel in the area, we recommend Comfort Inn Saugerties.
