8 Times Buffalo Proved It Was The City Of Good Neighbors

Buffalo is home to many things: the Bills and Sabres, beautiful architecture, delicious food, and so much more. But our biggest pride lies in our people, and it's not hard to see why. Buffalonians are there for each other in good times and bad. If you weren't sure whether our great city was worthy of its nickname, here are eight times Buffalo has proven it truly is the City of Good Neighbors.

1. When a bus driver derailed a suicide attempt

Back in 2013, a Buffalo bus driver saved a woman from jumping off a bridge downtown in a suicide attempt. The driver wrapped the woman in a hug and talked with her until authorities arrived. Then, he got back on the bus and finished his route.

2. When local restaurants delivered hot food to stranded motorists

We're used to the snow in Buffalo, but sometimes it still takes us by surprise. When feet of snow left drivers stranded south of the city, local restaurants stepped up by delivering hot food to their vehicles.

3. When Russell Salvatore buys out the Bills' tickets to prevent TV blackouts

The Bills make us want to shout - and it also makes us want to scream when we can't catch the games on TV due to blackout rules. Thankfully, Russ Salvatore comes to Buffalo fans' rescue often by buying out any necessary tickets so we can catch the game on TV!

4. When the Peace Bridge lights up to support special, local events

In the City of Good Neighbors, when one of us is struggling, we all feel it. This was especially true in 2014 when seemingly the entire city turned "Blue 4 Ben" in support of a local child with brain cancer.

5. When the public goes above and beyond to support local charities

Buffalo has several local charities that do amazing work both locally and nationally. Whatever the occasion, our community always steps up to support these special events and charitable causes to help those in need.

6. When the community comes together to better local neighborhoods

Whether it's through city clean-up efforts, dedicating days to renovations, helping home owners with chores they simply cannot do or afford, or all of the above, Buffalonians help our neighbors in any way we can.

7. When organizations donate time and resources to make celebrations brighter

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and no one should miss out on holiday celebrations because of a lack of resources. Local organization B Team Buffalo works hard to deck the halls in the city of Buffalo with cheerful holiday decor to boost spirits!

8. When Buffalonians dig each other out of tough situations (literally)

Remember when we mentioned we're used to snow here? When we get in over our heads, we really mean it. Turns out, even seven feet of snow doesn't stop the City of Good Neighbors from helping each other out!
