Okay, so maybe we are a little biased, but Buffalo is one heck of a city! Yes, we get our fair share of snow and we don’t always have a winning record, but there are tons of reasons that keep people here and coming back. Let’s all skip the argument (because you know we’re right) and read on why you should make the move to Buffalo if you haven’t already.
1. The people
There’s a reason we are called the City of Good Neighbors. Buffalo’s strong sense of community shows through the good times and the bad. Whether you need to borrow a cup of flour, or dig out from eight feet of snow, someone is always there to help!
2. The love
We’re just minutes down the road from the Honeymoon Capital of the World, Niagara Falls. That must mean we know love, right? Buffalo is an awesome scene for day and night dates! Warm up during cold days with your other half at the various Spot coffees located throughout the city and end the night with a romantic dinner at the Chop House! Just be sure to fuel up with enough caffeine to last until final call because...
3. The nightlife
More accurately, the nightlife to very early morning life since last call is at 4 a.m. We know how to have a good time. Head over to Allentown to enjoy live band performances and cold brews. Enjoy the techno vibe? Skybar has that covered. Whether you’re a fan of jazz, rock-and-roll, pop, or country, there is a variety of venues where you can go and let loose! Buffalo’s music and nightlife scene stands up to, and even trumps, the other city that everyone seems to think we’re from when we say we are from New York.
4. The sports
Like we said above, we’ve never won a Super Bowl or a Stanley Cup, but no city has fans like us. Our die hard followers wake up every Sunday morning during football season, put on Bills gear, hop on the Bills buses, tailgate in subzero temps, and cheer on a team we are faithfully devoted to. Even when we know our season is done, we’re still at the Ralph (oops, New Era) full of energy and enthusiasm. No fear of commitment here!
5. The food
If you haven’t had any authentic Buffalo food, you’re seriously missing out. Whether you want Greek, or pizza and wings, we can knock your socks off. Buffalo’s food scene is rapidly growing, so there’s always something new to try. If you really want a true Buffalo experience, you have to try Anchor Bar, Duff’s, Ted’s, Charlie the Butcher, and 716. Once you move here, you’ll never want to go back to the old things you were eating. Buffalo will evolve your taste buds.
Our festivals also revolve around food! During the summer, try all of the local Buffalo grub at the Taste of Buffalo. Every September, head over to the Wing Festival to stuff your face with the food we are known for! Move here and you’ll never go hungry!
6. The sweets
Leave the Buffalo area and no one has a clue what sponge candy is. Local sweets shop, Antoinette’s, will leave your mouth watering for the local treat. It’s gold - it literally is in the center - and will leave you wondering how you ever lived anywhere without it. What’s even more fun is teaching a non-Buffalonian the Buffalo way to eat it!
7. The entertainment
There is always something to do in Buffalo. Being bored is prohibited and nearly impossible. Stop by Shea’s for a Broadway show. Head over to Kleinhans Music Hall to enjoy the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Tote the kids over to the zoo to check out the latest exhibit. Buffalo also offers many free and amazing places/activities to enjoy, so doing Buffalo on the cheap is still fun!
8. The culture
The arts in our city are outstanding! Legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed six houses on our grounds. City Hall displays the characteristics of the Art Deco period. Murals and art line the streets of Elmwood Village and Allentown. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is also helping to revive our city’s culture with public art on the recently renovated and popular Canalside! Have you really been to Buffalo if you haven’t taken a selfie with Shark Girl?
9. The weather
Love the change of seasons? We have that. Sometimes we can experience all four in one day. Our trees are breathtaking during fall, the Tulips in local town Holland are beautiful during spring, summer days are comfortable and breezy along Lake Erie, and of course the snow is the best! We don’t really worry about things like earthquakes and hurricanes, but hit us with a blizzard and our people will dig their way out like champs!
10. The celebrations
What other city celebrates Dyngus Day like a national holiday? Do other cities even know what it is? Either way, we know how to have fun every day of the year. Our St. Patrick’s Day parades are known as some of the best in the country and you don't’ even have to be Irish to partake! Head down to Broadway Market to stock up for all holiday celebrations. Tradition is rich in Buffalo and a huge reason why our city is so awesome!
11. The best of both worlds
Buffalo isn’t too big and it isn’t too small. We don’t live on top of one another. We can travel ten minutes outside of the city and feel like we are in the country or even be in another country. We have green space, numerous parks, waterfalls, and space to run free. What’s better than that?
Share your reasons why you think our city is the best! What keeps you here (or keeps you wanting to come back) and in love with the Queen City?
