Nambe Lake Trail offers a challenging yet rewarding hike through diverse and breathtaking landscapes in New Mexico.

There's a reason New Mexico is nicknamed the Land of Enchantment. From glorious mountaintops to sprawling canyons, sand dunes, and just about every landscape in between, our state is chock-full of natural wonders. Even still, there are trails that inspire a newfound appreciation for New Mexico's incredibly diverse landscape. One prime example is the Nambe Lake Trail. Not far from Santa Fe, this 6-mile trek will lead you through some of the most mesmerizing scenery. Here's more on what you can expect from the Nambe Lake Trail, an adventure that will show you a completely new side of New Mexico.

If you love crystal-clear alpine lakes, forested trails, and mountain views for as far as the eye can see, then the Nambe Lake Trail belongs at the top of your New Mexico outdoor bucket list.

The trail begins at the Santa Fe Ski Area parking lot. You'll want to keep an eye out for the Windsor Trail sign (there actually isn't a Nambe Trail sign until later).

Hikers have noted that it takes approximately five hours to complete this rather strenuous out-and-back trail. Be sure to pack plenty of water, food, and layers, as the weather can change rather drastically in the mountains.

A significant portion of the hike meanders through the woods, which lends the trail an enchanting and mystical element.

If you do plan on hiking in the winter, it may be necessary to bring spikes or crampons.

The final mile of the trail is the most strenuous, but rest assured your efforts will be well rewarded with a remarkable view of Nambe Lake — even if it's frozen!

So the next time you're craving quality outdoor time in New Mexico with no shortage of breathtaking scenery, this might be the perfect trail for you.
