As a lover of all things spooky, I feel lucky to have grown up in New Jersey. The Garden State is home to a host of ghosts, our very own devil, and all sorts of things that go bump in the night. In celebration of Halloween month, I’d love to share one of my favorite ghost stories with you – the story of Indian Curse Road.
It even made headlines, with a New York Times article entitled: Is New Road Tempting Fate? If you're a believer in the paranormal, the answer is most definitely YES.
In 1985, a 4-mile stretch of road was added to Route 55 in Deptford. The road was built despite warnings from a local Native American doctor of divinity (Dr. Pierce/shaman Wayadanga) who told contractors that a sacred burial ground existed on the land.

Terrible things began to happen to the crew - so many things that it could not be considered a mere coincidence. A worker was blown from an overpass and injured, another had three heart attacks in succession, an inspector had an aneurysm, and this is only just the start. Perhaps most notable is the tragic death of a worker who was struck and killed by an asphalt-roller. The cause of the accident has never been determined.
Quite recently, something very strange happened along this same stretch of road. Several drivers reported seeing a girl wandering alongside the highway, unresponsive to those who offered her help. Police responded to concerned callers and said that they were able to locate and safely return the young runaway. Still, watching this footage of the "ghost girl" gives me chills.
