Here Are The 10 Safest And Most Peaceful Places To Live In New Jersey
In the past, we’ve brought you lists of the most dangerous places to live in New Jersey; those lists were all much more difficult to write than this one. While we only have a few more dangerous cities, we have dozens of safe places to live all over the state. We are one of the safest states in the country, after all! Here are some of the safest towns to live in, of all sizes, across New Jersey. Please note that rankings are based on SafeWise’s most recent year for which data is currently available, which, at the time of this writing, is 2021. Check out this list of the most peaceful places in New Jersey as of right now:
This town often tops the lists of safest cities in the country! With over 10,000 residents, you may be surprised to learn that there have been no violent crimes here recently and only 2 property crimes per 1,000 residents. Amazing!
With a violent crime rate of 0.2 and a very low property crime rate, this town is safer than the majority of the towns in our entire country. Cheers to that!
Like Sparta, Chatham is safer than most of the United States! This little suburb has nearly 10,300 residents but a violent crime rate of 0.0, and a property crime rate of just 2.3 per 1,000 residents.
This lovely town is situated within Morris County, New Jersey. If you enjoy the outdoors, you'll love it here, and you can take comfort in knowing the crime rate is much lower than the national average.
A photogenic little town, New Providence is among the safest in the state and the country. It is constantly evaluating its methods to keep this little town of 13,000 in check. It's clearly working well, as New Providence has a crime rate well below the national average!
Warren Township has a population of about 15,700. A town this large can be difficult to police, but Warren just doesn't seem to have a problem. There was a 0.0 rate of violent crime here in 2021. Kudos to that!
Though from this photo you might think Clinton is some tiny town, it is actually a diverse city with nearly 13,000 residents. The low crime rate here is a wonderful perk of living in this already-glorious place.
Bernards is one of the larger populations on this list, with just over 27,200 people calling it home. A popular place for families, there was a violent crime rate of 0.0 and a property crime rate of 3.0 for every 1,000 residents in 2021.
This city has been steadily growing... but its crime rates have not. Score! Monroe Township is safer than the majority of small and medium-suzed towns in the United States, even with its population of under 50,000. This lovely little town is well worth a visit, but beware: you might just want to live here!
It doesn't get a lot better than all of the towns on this list - and Wanaque is no slouch either! With a population of only about 11,770, Wanaque saw a violent crime rate of 0.3 per 1,000 residents. Sounds good to us!

What are the most dangerous places in New Jersey?
Just like with essentially anywhere else, New Jersey has its fair share of towns where the violent crime rate is higher than average and, as such, they earn a spot on “most dangerous” lists all over the web. At the time of this writing, the most dangerous places in New Jersey include Camden, which has also been called one of the most dangerous places in the United States as well, and Asbury Park, which is a remarkably violence-prone place despite its status as a popular tourist destination (or maybe BECAUSE it’s a popular tourist destination). The city called most dangerous of all is Newark, with residents having a 1 in 37 chance of being the victim of a violent crime.
