12 Pieces Of Graffiti In New Jersey So Brilliant They Should Be In A Museum

Beautiful artwork, free for everyone to enjoy, can be spotted all throughout the state. Unfortunately, some of that work involves illegally defacing public property. While street art off all kinds can be breathtaking, the murals featured in this post have all been commissioned by businesses, galleries and local non-profit organizations.

1. This collaboration by several street artists was the first piece commissioned by the Jersey City Mural Arts Program.

2. Another Jersey City mural, I love the fun colors and cheerful vibe.

3. This Asbury Park mural is a bit risque but totally stunning.

4. Created by Baltimore artists Nanook x Mata Ruda, this gorgeous piece was part of the Savage Habit Murals Project.

5. Street artist Green Villain created this mural for the Demolition Exhibition in Jersey City.

6. The Demolition Exhibition highlighted the work of local talents with varying skill levels. The exhibit was on display until 7/5/15, when the building was...demolished.

7. This vivid work by Australian artist Mike Makatron can be found on Newark Avenue in Jersey City.

8. This is just a small portion of the Christopher Columbus Drive Mural, the second-largest mural in the United States. It spans 10 buildings and reaches a height of 60 feet.

9. This magnificent work depicts a dystopian future. It is called "Remembering the Clouds".

10. This Jersey City masterpiece is a heartbreaking tribute to Joseph Lovero, a local firefighter who gave the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

11. Step back in time alongside this Long Branch mural, aptly named "1939".

12. Another Jersey City mural, this project was funded by the New Jersey State Council of the Arts. "The Dream" can be found at 337 Central Avenue.
