When many of us on the East Coast think about retiring, we think about Florida or the Carolinas. Sure, these places are warmer and often more affordable, but they are not New Jersey. Some of us don’t want to leave our state, and we don’t have to! New Jersey offers many incredible places to retire, whether you’re looking to save some cash or live in luxury. The following cities were chosen based on data including percentage of senior residents, access to medical care, entertainment and recreational opportunities, cost of living and safety.
This lakeside town offers opportunities for fishing and boating, along with a lower cost of living. Home prices vary, but I recently found a beautiful property right on the lake for just $250K, along with several smaller properties selling for under $100K!
Though you'll find this town to be a bit pricier than Hopatcong, there are still several charming condo complexes with units priced under $250K. The location is ideal, situated between bustling Atlantic City and quaint Cape May. You're sure to love the summers in this beachside resort town!
Though this town is home to many million dollar mansions, you can still find a lovely home for under $500K. While that is certainly pricey, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Enjoy an incredible historic district, charming downtown and numerous entertainment options. You're also minutes from Philadelphia and just a short drive to Atlantic City.
Another high-end neighborhood, Ridgewood offers safety, fine dining and numerous shopping opportunities along with a great sense of community! You'll find many amenities and easy access to healthcare.
Voorhees makes the cut for its lower crime rate, access to health care and affordable housing. You'll find many condos priced under $100K and even under $50K! Though the town itself may not have many amenities, it is located near several charming small towns and bustling cities.
Fort Lee offers diverse dining options, relative safety, numerous amenities, great parks and incredible views. Residents can enjoy small-town life while being only minutes from New York City. Nearly 30% of residents are over age 65, and there is a substantial public transportation system. Home prices vary but several condos and co-ops can be found for under $100K.
This lovely community offers affordable housing, numerous social and entertainment opportunities, access to healthcare and close proximity to a wide range of outdoor activities. You're never far from fishing, swimming, rafting, boating, skiing or hiking! You can find a selection of lovely homes here for under $200K.
Nicknamed the "Blueberry Capital of the World", residents can enjoy fresh berries and a major festival focused on the fruit! The town also offers affordable housing and access to doctors, golf and other recreational opportunities.
Though the cost of living is higher, this town offers safety and a significant senior population. Residents also have access to healthcare and a wide variety of entertainment options.

Though the cost of living is high, there are endless entertainment opportunities, dining options and recreational activities available at your fingertips. You also have easy access to numerous top-ranked doctors and hospitals.
This scenic shore town isn't cheap, but it offers a vibrant array of leisure activities, shopping, dining and great doctors, along with a high percentage of seniors.
