It’s no surprise that the Garden State, a state that prides itself in growing fresh fruits and vegetables, has a handful of hippie towns. Lambertville comes to mind, but that’s more of an obvious choice – I’m all about discovering new things in New Jersey. You may be a bit surprised by my pick but, by the end of the article, you’ll see that it definitely gives off some serious hippie vibes.
Denville is a Morris County town that's home to about 17,000 residents.
It's also home to picturesque parks, lovely lakes, an island, and an abundance of shopping and dining opportunities. So, what makes it a hippie haven?
You'll find the popular Prana Yoga Center, a truly unique studio.
Prana offers yoga classes for all experience levels and in a variety of styles including Kundalini, Vinyasa and Hatha. They even offer Candlelight Restorative Yoga with calming music and aromatherapy! And then, there are the self-care mini retreats...On January 19th, they're hosting a workshop entitled I Am Enough. You'll also find teacher trainings, yoga getaways (to Costa Rica in 2018) and a shop with books, accessories, cards, jewelry, incense and more. Prana Yoga Center is located at 78 Broadway.
If yoga isn't hippie enough for you, there's a center for peace and meditation.
The Art of Living offers meditation classes and in-depth happiness courses. In May, they will be hosting a 3-night silence retreat. Find them at 105 Broadway.
There's even a center for play therapy.
Morris County Play Therapy is where "play, yoga, and healing meet." While play therapy is designed for children, you'll also find offerings for adults including the creation and processing of sand trays and therapeutic art. They've got yoga classes, too.
Let's Create is a lovely art studio...

Find it at 21 Bloomfield Avenue. Mo'Pweeze is a vegan bakery that you can't miss. They work hard to ensure their products are delicious, vegan, and top-8 allergen free. Find them at 32 Broadway.
For healthy food you can take home, head to Grassroots Natural Market.
Expect to find local, natural and organic foods and products, homeopathic medicine, and a knowledgeable staff. There's a large selection of foods, along with gifts and bath/beauty products. They're ranked among the best health food stores in New Jersey! Find them at 20 1st Avenue.
Looking for the freshest fruits and veggies? Head to Union Hill Farms.
Shop for homegrown apples, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, winter squash, jams, jellies and much more. In the fall, you can enjoy a free hayride to their pick-your-own pumpkin patch. Find them at 25 Cooper Road.
And we can't forget the Denville Farmers' Market.
Enjoy fresh, local produce all year long! While the markets aren't held as frequently in the winter, you can still find them at least once each month. The next market will be held on January 7th at the Bloomfield Parking Lot in Downtown Denville. Expect produce, juices, live music and more.
