It Doesn’t Get Much Creepier Than This Abandoned Brick Factory Hidden In New Jersey

Anyone already familiar with creepy things in New Jersey likely has heard the name Pine Barrens thrown around before. The New Jersey Pine Barrens is considered to be one of the most haunted forests in North America. But what some might not know about this area is that tucked away deep inside the Pine Barrens is an old Terracotta brick factory that has been abandoned for decades. Take a look at the Brooksbrae Brick Factory in Manchester Township and see for yourself why this abandoned New Jersey brick factory can easily incite goosebumps.

Situated along the eastern edge of Brendan T. Byrne State Forest is what remains of the Brooksbrae Brick Factory in New Jersey.

This abandoned brick factory, once producing thousands of bricks per day, has become a Mecca for graffiti over the years, creating an artistic ambiance over this vacant space.

What was once a functioning and flourishing brick factory met a fiery demise in 1915 after flames ravaged much of the building.

The Brooksbrae Brick Company’s owner William Kelly passed in 1908 before the facility reached full speed. Production and completion were brought to a standstill.

In 1915, employees of the Central Railroad of New Jersey launched a strike close to the unfinished factory, so a private caretaker and his wife were sent to the property to keep it safe.

Unfortunately, after lighting a fire in the wood-burning stove, the clogged flue resulted in a massive blaze, which killed the couple and destroyed the property.

Today, visitors can see firsthand what was left after the fire, and in fact, many already have.

This is why the space is covered in colorful graffiti. Now a fascinating outdoor display that resembles an art installation is where hikers and explorers can go to see a piece of history. Sitting empty for decades, nature has also reclaimed this space, which lends itself to an eerie feeling, especially on an overcast day.

Just be warned, getting to and from this abandoned brick factory is not an easy feat, and adventurers should use extreme caution.

No signs are posted telling you where to go, and most explorers use GPS coordinates. As always, make sure to observe any signs that indicate private property and respect them accordingly.
