If you've never had the pleasure of dining on a seafood boil, you're really missing out. This Southern specialty is available in Nebraska thanks to the fabulous Bourbon Street by Single Barrel, a New Orleans-style restaurant in Lincoln's Haymarket.
Bourbon Street by Single Barrel opened in early 2018. It brings a fresh, unique flavor to the historic Haymarket district with its signature Cajun-style seafood boils.
Seafood boils, for the uninitiated, consist of a variety of delicious foods and seasonings all cooked together.
It's all dumped straight onto a butcher paper-covered table - and that's when the fun begins. You can use silverware if you like, but it's easier and much more fun to eat with your hands.
It's a messy, memorable way to enjoy a meal that prompts everyone at the table to talk and laugh together. Half of the appeal of a seafood boil is the social aspect of eating this way.
The other half, of course, is the amazing flavors. At Bourbon Street, you can customize the ingredients and seasonings. Choose as many seafood varieties as you like from the list: crawfish, shrimp, snow crab legs, clams, mussels, and Maine Lobster tail.
Then you'll choose your sides from corn on the cob, andouille sausage, and red potatoes. Get all of them for the ultimate seafood boil. Finally, pick your seasoning: mild, spicy, or honey citrus. Everything is tossed in butter before being boiled to perfection.
It's a meal like no other. You and your dining companions will find yourselves laughing as you grab your favorites from the table and devour each piece.
Although the seafood boil is the specialty here, there are a few other menu items on offer, like gumbo, a ham and cheese sandwich, and oysters on the half shell. Seafood is flown in fresh every single day so you can be sure you're getting the best stuff possible.
The perfect complement to your meal is a New Orleans-style cocktail. Enjoy a hurricane, a perfectly-mixed old fashioned, or be a little bold and tackle a sazerac. There's a variety of beers and wines on offer, as well.
